SKY EXPRESS
Or how they like to call themselves ,The Islanders is a fast growing Greek airline , based in Crete , recently awarded by the European Union of Regional Airlines and Athens Venizelos Airport . Sky Express mostly connects Greek islands to major cities such as Athens and Thessaloniki but also islands to each other.
Frankly , i first traveled with this airline , a few years ago when , after Olympic Airlines , took over the route of Corfu to Kefallonia , which i used quite often to visit home . For most people Sky Express was pretty unknown back then but i can tell you , they were very decent from the start AND i have traveled despite some really bad weather and i give them credit for that! Personally Sky Express has now become one of the best to travel with , lets go see what they offer!
Routes and tickets
Sky Express nowadays flies towards 32 destinations , including Ionian Islands and the islands of Aegean Sea , connecting them to each other and also Athens , Thessaloniki and Siteia in Crete , doing a proper – as they call it – island hoping!
Fares in certain routes are fixed ( FlyBasic ) , meaning there is basically no way you can find a better price depending on the season or day , other than that fares are normally divided in three categories . SkyFly includes a piece of bag and a carry on under 8 kilos , SkySave up to 15 kilos and the premium one up to 25 kilos , with the last two option offering you a free entry in the Sky Executive Lounge ( even though i was given an entrance once even with the sky-fly option , so YEY to them).No online check in has to be done ( for now at least ) , it is automatically done with the purchase of the ticket , so all you have to do is show up in the counter one hour before the flight!
From personal experience , i can tell you that in case of a flight cancellation due to bad weather or any other reason , the airline offers accommodation to the passengers , transportation to the airport and of course does her best to rearrange the flight the soonest.
While you can find a 20 euro ticket from Corfu to Athens ( if you book in advance) and be super happy , having to pay a much greater price to go from Corfu to Kefallonia , somewhere up to 150 euro round-trip is for sure a big thumbs down for me , especially when those places need the connections the most and are co – financed by the Greek Government ( as they are claimed to be lean areas.)
Flying with Skyexpress
All Sky Express air-crafts are relatively small ( with propellers ) but in an excellent condition. Seats are comfortable , with enough leg room even for a 1.82 person like me , drinks and cookies are being served at all flights , and the crew is always warm and welcoming!
